PUENTE Charter Elementary School student Genesis was officially re-classified from English Learner to English Proficient in first grade. “PUENTE teachers put in the time,” says Genesis’s mom, Lilian. “I trust them to find the right way for each child to learn English.”
PUENTE celebrates the achievements of Genesis and all our English learners, who make up over a significant percentage of students at PUENTE Charter Elementary Cchool. Research shows that learning English at an early age leads to significant improvements in school that last for years to come. In Genesis’s first grade year, 35% of English Learner Students were re-classified as English Proficient, a re-classification rate that greatly exceeded that at other nearby public schools.
