Earlier this year, PUENTE 1st grade student Genesis was officially re-classified from English Learner to English Proficient. “PUENTE teachers put in the time,” says Genesis’s mom, Lilian. “I trust them to find the right way for each child to learn English.”
PUENTE celebrates the achievements of Genesis and all our English learners, who make up over 70% of students at our charter elementary school. Research shows that learning English at an early age leads to significant improvements in school that last for years to come. In Genesis’s class, 35% of English Learner Students were re-classified as English Proficient, a rate that greatly exceeds those at other nearby schools.
