“When I have questions about financial aid or student loans, I always come to [my case manager] Guillermo. He always has answers for me. Guillermo gives me confidence in the decisions I make.” – Bryan, PUENTE College and Career student
The challenges faced by many low-income students of color have been amplified by the COVID-19 crisis. Our high school students must stay on track to graduate and apply to colleges even as classes move to distance learning and standardized tests are canceled. Our college students must persist through their post-secondary education in spite of campus closures and moving back home. Many face the difficult decision of putting their academic progress at risk in order to help their families survive.
PUENTE College and Career staff members are meeting the needs of these students with innovative approaches. We made remote counseling sessions available by video and phone for hundreds of our youth in need. Our case managers are providing critical assistance with applying for scholarships, staying on track academically, and connecting with campus resources.
